So as I type this a torrent of rain is falling outside. It's funny how just a few hours ago I was covered in sweat from playing soccer with the kids at juvy. Just before lunch, without warning, it was like someone dumped a bucket on us; the only difference being that water was falling everywhere and there was no sign of it stopping. Every time you thought it couldn't rain any heavier, it started raining heavier. I was planing on going to the Bushmen safari company to give them the camera they let me borrow so I could get my photos put onto a CD and I was planning on picking up the clothes I got tailored about a week ago, but now it looks like I'm going to need to wait until the rains let up. Rain like this is usually a sign of the rainy season, but that isn't supposed to start until around March, which means the farmers (which make up 80% of Tanzania's population) haven't planted their seeds yet.
Speaking of the safari, I'm sure you're all dying to hear how it went. It was amazing, I saw every animal I could have thought to have wanted to see in the Sarangeti. The Masai village was interesting, but there was an extreme lack of hygene (cockroaches crawling across your feet while you're in their hut and most of the children obviously sick and crawling with flies.) When they tried sell us something, the Masai were very aggressive, crowding around you and putting items on you before you can say anything. But it was a good expirence and it helped me understand their way of life.
I was some what disapointed in the camera lent to me because of it's limited zoom, but it wasn't too bad because some of the animals got so close you could almost touch them and I got some really nice pictures. I didn't much enjoy the camp grounds, there were a huge amount of other tourists, making the camp grounds crowded with tents and the eating areas filled. Not to mention that the toilets were holes in the ground that smelled worse than porta-potties. But that was made up for by the brillance of the stars at night. Not to mention, hearing hyenas outside of your tent made the night pretty exciting. I'll post the pictures as soon as I'm able to get to Bushmen.
